The area of land, which is now known as the Rockhampton Botanical Gardens was gazetted as a public garden in 1869. Many large trees, which exist throughout the Gardens were planted then. Most noteably the Banyan Figs that surround the Gardens Tearooms were thought to be planted about 1873.
In 1881 a kiosk was erected within the gardens. This served the public until 1911, when a new kiosk was built on the present site. |
