About the Gardnes Tearooms

The cafe is located under the 100 year old Banyan Fig Trees which were planted in the Gardens in appoximatley 1895.

Entry to the Botanical Gardens is free of charge. It is open 365 days of the year.
It was voted BEST attraction in Rockhampton by Tripadvisor 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Stroll it at your leisure and view the wide range of plant specimens, Cenotaph, Hugo Lassen Fernery, Murray Lagoon and the Japanese Gardens. Alternatively visit the free zoo, extensive playground or the bike track.

The area of land, which is now known as the Rockhampton Botanical Gardens was gazetted as a public garden in 1869. Many large trees, which exist throughout the Gardens were planted then. Most noteably the Banyan Figs that surround the Gardens Tearooms were thought to be planted about 1873.In 1881 a kiosk was erected within the gardens. This served the public until 1911, when a new kiosk was built on the present site.
